What Managed Databases is
Managed Databases gives your organization production database engines without running them yourself. PostgreSQL 14–16, MySQL 8.4, MariaDB 11.4, Redis 7.4, MongoDB 8.0 and ClickHouse 24.8 are available today, with Valkey coming soon. Each instance can be linked to a project, but it lives under Resources and belongs to the organization.
The product is developer-first: most people need to create, connect, monitor, back up and scale, so those come first. Every instance has Overview, Connect, Users, Monitor, Backups, Logs, Settings and Activity tabs, while replicas and topology stay under Advanced. Operations an engine cannot support — such as users on Redis or backups on ClickHouse — are clearly gated.
A database is created through a guided wizard — engine, configuration, resources, network, review — choosing a region (US East, EU West or Asia Pacific) and a size: Starter at $7, Pro at $29 or Business at $79 per month. Network access can be private or public with allowed IPs, and SSL is always on.
Connecting is the primary success path: the Connect tab shows host, port, credentials, a ready-made URI in each engine's native scheme and language snippets. Credentials are sealed at rest in the control plane, and deletion protection blocks accidental deletes — even removing the whole workspace.
Pick the engine, keep the workflow
Every engine gets the same create → connect → monitor flow. Operations that an engine cannot support are gated, not hidden.

Create, connect, monitor, back up, scale
Topology stays under Advanced. The tabs you use daily come first.
Connect
Host, port, credentials, a full URI, and language snippets — with copy and reveal controls.
Users & roles
Create and remove database users as admin, readwrite, or readonly.
Monitor
Disk, connections, and database size, best-effort per engine.
Backups
Automatic and manual backups using each engine’s native dump tool, on a timeline.
Logs & activity
Container logs plus an action timeline for every change made to the instance.
Network & protection
Private or public access, allowed IPs, SSL always on, and deletion protection.
Simple size presets with a live monthly estimate
Copy the URI, paste it into your app
Each engine gets its native URI scheme and ready-to-run snippets on the Connect tab.
- postgresql:// · mysql:// · mariadb:// · redis:// · mongodb:// · clickhouse://
- Passwords are masked until you reveal them
- Credentials are sealed at rest in the control plane
import { Pool } from "pg";

Common questions
Can I restore a backup from the dashboard?
Backups are created and listed today; a one-click restore UI is on the roadmap.
Is high availability supported?
You can enable the HA flag at creation; multi-instance topology arrives with the operator-based provider.
Why can’t I create users on Redis or ClickHouse?
Operations are gated per engine capability. Redis and ClickHouse expose connect and metrics; ClickHouse backups are not available yet.
Are the prices final?
Plan prices are shown as a live estimate in the create wizard; metered billing for databases is not enabled yet.
Can I delete a database by accident?
Turn on deletion protection — deletes, and even workspace removal, are refused until you turn it off.
